“Being the Chairman of the Management Board of a company like Sofimac Partners involves supervising a team so that a balance can be struck between value creation and risk management. In addition, my role is to define our corporate strategy, and to seek out partners and investors and maintain long-term relationships with them. Private equity is increasingly important for companies, and M&A deals are often instigated by investment funds. At the same time, the business is becoming more professional and complex because of regulatory developments particularly in terms of the new accounting standards. In sum, the private equity profession is based on experience and, contrary to what was frequently said in 2000, there are no born geniuses. Curiosity and stress management are required, and it is also necessary to resist short-term temptations and take one’s time to invest. |
